Cyprus has Had a VERY important history including Colonization and Invasion so here it is........ Colonization: Cyprus was Colonized by the Ottoman Empire in 1878 and then handed over to Great Britian, and Cyprus was under British Control until November of 1960. Invasions: In 1974 after the Greek-Cypriots and the Turk-Cypriots were living in peace since the leaving of England Something happened. One of the Presidents was overthrown from his duties and then demanded a union with Greece. Later in the year, Turkey citing to a treaty, later invaded Cyprus and divided up half of Cyprus. The Cypriots would then put up a wall and stayed in their marked territories. North Cyprus for the Turks, and Southern Cyprus for the Greek-Cypriots. In 2003, the Turkish-Cypriot authorities eased the border restrictions, allowing thousands of Cypriots to cross the Wall in both directions for the first time in nearly 30 years. However, everyone must have a passport to cross the green line.
